For any new experience it can be scary but when you are volunteering with your dog we say you need to expect the unexpected and you will be rewarded. Here is just one of those stories...
Just letting you know I went for my orientation at Opal last Friday and met Emma and the team - they seem great. So convenient for us too being literally 2 minutes walk away!
After orientation, I popped home and grabbed Henry so he could meet the team too, and he loved it (so did they). Apparently, they put us on the front page of last week's resident newsletter so people already know Henry and were so excited he was there!
We will be visiting every week on Wednesday afternoons from 3:30 to 4:30pm, starting today. Emma will be with me the first few visits as she wants us to go everywhere and see how the residents react, then we can tailor Henry's attention to those residents it seems to benefit most.
They were all very excited and Henry was already in his element - such an attention hog! He jumped straight onto the lap of a particular resident and snuggled in... Probably would have been able to just leave him there for the afternoon, really! Haha.
